Klynok (meaning “saber blade” in Ukrainian) is a shapeshifting type system inspired by Ukrainian Cossack Baroque heritage. It is the result of two years of historical research and design studies in France during my master’s and postgraduate programs. Currently, it includes display, text, and italic styles in Latin and Ukrainian Cyrillic.
This project has been proudly recognized with support from the SILICON Stanford Program and won a Wood Pencil at the D&AD Awards 2025.
This is a large, long-term project. If you represent a foundry or a font distribution platform, feel free to reach out to discuss a potential release.
If you are interested in using Klynok before its official release, feel free to get in touch to discuss its purchase (only available as a full type system, not split into separate display and text styles) for an editorial project or work connected with the Baroque era, culture, or themes of Ukrainian national identity and defense. As the type system is still in development, some projects may require my additional consultation or art direction to ensure its proper and effective use within a specific context (available for an additional fee; free of charge for projects connected to the Armed Forces of Ukraine).
