Fransua font
(in progress)

Fransua (previously called Pasteur) is an experimental display typeface. It is inspired by the titles of the 1920s silent French film about Louis Pasteur.

I noticed a combination of square, circular, and triangular shapes, as well as long diagonal ascenders and descenders, which create an interesting rhythm. Through experiments on paper and exploring forms, I borrowed these techniques, enhancing them and altering proportions.

After that, I digitized the font. Currently, Fransua has Latin and Cyrillic with some research on the historical Ukrainian lettershapes. This presentation showcases the main style in thin weight and a small spoiler of heavy weight. Also, other weights and additional ultra-wide style with a reverse contrast are in progress.

The name of this font was invented by my friend Oleksii Salnykov. It is a misspelling of the name François and reflects two sources of inspiration: Frans (France) + UA (Ukraine).

Inspiration:
Silent movie titles (“Pasteur” by Jean Epstein)

Process:
Exploration of the lettershapes, rhythm, and experimenting with proportions
